Before God made man He made the angels.
Hebrews 1:7 & Psalm 104:4
The angels were made before the world was even made.
It seems that God created three orders of angels in accordance with the trinity of God.
1. Intellectual -- Gabriel
2. Spiritual -- Michael
3. God’s "chief princes" or head angels was Satan. He was the most beautiful of God’s creations.
Satan was given charge of the physical world...the earth.
Ezekiel speaks of him in 28:12-19.
God gave satan rights to everything He had, but that wasn't good enough. Satan wanted control over everything...God's angels, God's kingdom, and God...He actually wanted to be God, so he rebelled against his creator. Ezek. 28:15.
Satan wanted the worship of the other angels. In his lust he decided he would war against God and exalt his throne above the other angels. In this he failed and his name changed from Lucifer (son of the morning) to Satan (hater).
"How have you fallen from heaven, O light-bringer and daystar, son of the morning! How you have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened and laid low the nations [O blasphemous, satanic king of Babylon!]" Isaiah 14:12.
John saw a battle in heaven: "Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels went forth to battle with the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought. But they were defeated, and there was no room found for them in heaven any longer. And the huge dragon was cast down and out--that age-old serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, he who is the seducer (deceiver) of all humanity the world over; he was forced out and down to the earth, and his angels were flung out along with him.
And Jesus said, "I saw Satan falling like a lightning [flash] from heaven" Luke. 10:18.
What was that iniquity?
Pride became the fall of satan! God hates pride! He said, "And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass". Leviticus 26:19.
"By pride and insolence comes only contention, but with the well-advised is skillful and godly Wisdom" Prov. 13:10.
Psalm 10:4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
"Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment" Psalm 73:6.
"The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate" Proverbs 8:13.
"In the fool's own mouth is a rod [to shame] his pride, but the wise men's lips preserve them" Proverbs 14:3.
Amplified Footnotes!
The word "fool" in the Old Testament seldom, if ever, is used to describe the feebleminded, imbecile, idiot, or moron. Rather, it always has within it the meaning of a rebel, especially against God and the laws of order, decency, and justice. Notice in Proverbs how many such characteristics of rebelliousness are listed against the fool, and see God's attitude toward them.
THE NATURE OF SATAN
Jesus said that Satan is the father of lies, and the original murderer. No liar ever admits he is a liar but always accuses the other fellow lying. So Satan tempted Eve by saying that God had lied to her about the dangers of eating from the forbidden tree (Gen. 3:1-5).
When he convinced Adam and Eve to disobey God he caused them to sin (Rom. 5:12). Because of Satan’s lie then both Adam and Eve died spiritually and later died physically as we all do. Thus is Satan the first murderer.
He is bitterly opposed to God, good, and Heaven.
He opposed God in his attack on Heaven. He lost the battle for Heaven but he won 1/3 of God’s angels away from Him.
Having lost his bid to gain a throne in Heaven, the devil then set about to oppose God’s redemptive work for man on earth.
There’s too much information here to try to cover it all in one sermon. But his main purpose is to resist the work of Jesus. (See Gen. 3:15).
When Jesus died on the cross, Satan bruised His heel. But when Jesus comes again then He will bruise the head of the serpent. He is the great deceiver. Paul warned that because some people preferred to believe a lie then God would one day turn the devil loose on the world and the Prince of Lies would deceive many (II Thess. 2:11-12).
What is the lie that God will let happen? Satan will send a man who will claim to be the Son of God. This is the Anti-christ, the lawless one and the greatest liar the world has ever known (II Thess. 2:3-9)
Jesus warned of his coming by warning that many would claim to be Christ (Matt. 24:24-25) Jn. 5:43 -- "I come in my Fathers name and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive."
This man will gain complete rule of the whole world. He will be empowered by the devil, like Judas (Jn. 13:26-27)
D. In his work of resisting God, Satan has established fake churches. Now these church look like the real thing and do not teach a false gospel but a perverted one. See what Paul warned the Galatians in Gal. 1:6-7.
He has also established churches which come right out and worship him as being equal to God.
(I Tim. 4:1) - "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils."
So Satan’s nature is one of lust and rebellion. He is the dedicated enemy of man and God, constantly on the lookout for means to hinder both.
SATAN’S END. (I Jn. 3:8)
A. His destruction is promised in the Old Testament.
(Isa. 14:15) - "Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell to the sides of the pit."
B. He will be imprisoned forever. Rev. 20:10
C. And what of all those who were deceived by Satan and his lies? They will be sent with him. Rev. 20:12-15
CONCLUSION: Have you been deceived by Satan? You have if you do not consider Jesus and salvation important enough for your immediate consideration. Leave here without Christ as your Saviour and Satan has won a victory from God and you have lost your immortal soul.
